2024 UMES Fine Arts Department Faculty Exhibition
August 28 – October 20
Reception: August 28, 4:30 pm
This exhibition highlights the works of UMES faculty members in the fine arts department: Collin Byrd, Jesse Halpern, Cristopher Harrington, Elvin Hernandez, Brad Hudson, and Mehves Lelic. Presenting the diverse interests and artistic output of the department’s faculty, the exhibition includes painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art, and photography works.

Student-curated selection of artwork by UMES Department of Fine Arts students in Commercial Photography, Graphic Illustration, Sequential Arts, and Art Education.
2024-25 Lower Shore High School Exhibition
November 6 – November 17
Reception: November 6, 4-6 pm
In partnership with art teachers from Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset County High Schools, this exhibition celebrates the budding talent of young artists in the Lower Shore and provides promising students with cash awards as well as an opportunity to explore studying art at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Fall 2024 Senior Thesis Exhibition: Chase Lynch, Tyson Parker, Makiya Smith, Lyric Snowden

This exhibition serves as the capstone project for the Fine Arts Department’s graduating seniors from the Graphic Illustration, Sequential Arts, and Commercial Photography programs, and introduces them to the campus and Somerset County community.
2025 Juried Student Exhibition
February 3 - 14, 2024
Reception and Awards: Thursday, February 6, 4 – 6 pm
This campus-wide juried exhibition showcases the talent of visual artists and awards tuition scholarships to the top three award winners. With rapidly-developing mastery, the students explore contemporary subjects, from our ever-connected world, to the complexities young adults are facing in society. The exhibition celebrates their career trajectory and promise.
Define Yourself: African-American Art from the Collection of the Chrysler Museum
February 21 – May 2
Reception: Friday, February 21, 5-7 pm
Co-curated with Department of Fine Arts students and presenting major loans from the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Art Bridges Foundation, this exhibition explores likeness in African-American Art from the late 19th century until today. Presenting work by household names such as Elizabeth Catlett, Kwame Brathwaite, and Kara Walker, this exhibition seeks to provide an opportunity for local arts appreciators to experience a museum-quality selection and display the myriad ways in which Black artists explore and depict their multitudinous culture and their place in Black history.
Special opening reception event: Salon Noir at 6pm
Step into the world of Black pride as we celebrate the opening of Define Yourself, an exhibition which explores how Black people have claimed ownership of their image in media from the twentieth century to today. Listen to classic songs from the era that brought us the phrases, “Black is Beautiful” and “Say it Loud - I’m Black and I’m Proud.” Join us for conversation and community in a vintage inspired space.
